Northern Coasts
Northern Coasts is an original surf camping painting inspired by the freedom, friendship and adventure of life on the road along the coast.
Two young women sit together beside a campfire, laughing as they cook marshmallows. They are dressed for cooler weather, wearing woollen hats and warm jackets, suggesting that this isn’t a tropical beach but somewhere further north, where the evening air is cold even when the sunset is warm.
Behind them is a surf van with surfboards strapped to the roof, ready for the next day in the water. Beyond the van, the sea stretches towards the horizon, creating a connection between their temporary campsite and the ocean.
The scene takes place at sunset, filling the composition with warm, glowing colours. The contrast between the warmth of the fire and sunset and the cool northern environment creates the atmosphere of a long evening spent outdoors.
But the painting leaves one question deliberately unanswered:
Where are they?
The title, Northern Coasts, suggests a northern coastline, but there is no exact location. It could be somewhere along the Scandinavian coast, the Atlantic, or another remote surf destination where the road meets the sea.
This uncertainty is part of the story. The van, the surfboards, the fire and the two friends suggest a life defined by movement rather than a fixed destination.
This acrylic painting on canvas celebrates the social side of surfing — not only the moment of riding a wave, but everything that happens around it: travelling together, finding a place to stop, cooking outside, sharing stories and waiting for the next day.
The two women appear completely absorbed in their own moment. Their laughter and relaxed interaction create a feeling of genuine friendship and freedom.
The warm sunset palette gives the scene a nostalgic quality, while the surf van and boards introduce a sense of adventure. Together, these elements create the feeling of a summer road trip that could continue indefinitely.
With its 100 × 100 cm square format, Northern Coasts makes a strong statement piece and works particularly well in living rooms, bedrooms, studios, beach houses and contemporary interiors inspired by travel and coastal life.
